The History of The Franklin Club Fly Tying Group
Started in 1992 by long time Member Jim Purcell, the Fly Tying Group has become a great venue for beginners and proficient tiers alike to learn and expand on their knowledge of the art of Fly Tying.
Since 2005 Franklin Club Member, Gary Baldackin, has assumed the reigns of the Fly Tying Group. The sessions alternate every other week between the Beginner’s Classes and Advance Classes. A small nominal fee is charged to offset the cost of materials and equipment. Scroll below to see some of our fly-tying tutorial videos and insights from Club members and Guests.
Insights into The Franklin Club Fly Tying Group
At The Franklin Club Fly Tying Group, we welcome new members to join us for our bi-monthly, two-hour sessions. Many of our club members will arrive early to enjoy a meal together in the dining room prepared by our head chef before each tying session begins. Our fly tying group consist of club members and often visits from special guest tiers, all bringing decades of experience both on the water and at the vise. Every meeting is aimed to be fun, educational and engaging. Learn proven fly patterns to attract rainbow, brown, and brook trout, as well as techniques to refine how you present the fly on the water while fishing. Whether you’re new to fly fishing or looking to refine your skills, our fly tying group offers valuable guidance in a supportive community of fly fishing enthusiasts.
